“ News from California” (A Letter from Our American Pen-friend)

Hello, my Russian friends!

I was very glad when your teacher rang me up and asked to write a few words about my summer vacation. In my letter I’m going to tell you about our trip to Hollywood.

We start by car on Friday morning / July,10 – Mum, Dad, Stacy and me. It takes almost 7 hours to get Burbank - a town not far from Los Angeles.

Walt Disney, Warner Brothers and TV-studio NBC are situated in Burbank .

We reach Safari Inn at 4 p.m. It’s a small hotel with a swimming pool and it is quite near MacDonald’s.

On Saturday / July, 11, we go to Universal Studios. They are in Universal City which takes about 2 km 2 . What films is the Universal famous for? I’m sure you know them, too: “King Kong”, “Mummy”, “ Shreck”, “Jurassic Park”, “Jaws” and “Back to the Future”. We take a street-car ( трамвайчик ) and go along the shooting stages ( съемочные площадки ) .

We can see streets and houses from the films and take part in various performances ( различные представления ) :

being eaten by sharks from “Jaws”

waterfalling ( падение с водопада ) from “Jurassic Park”

the sea-battle from “Waterworld”

4-D show “The Simpsons”

On Sunday / July, 12, we visit the low level ( нижний уровень ) of Universal Studios. In the centre of it we find the street where everything is absolutely English.

Stacy likes it very much and we takes many photos of her there. She enjoys a lot of performances from cartoon films.

Then we go to “the streets of New York”. Suddenly we see a stall ( будка ). There is a donkey from “Shreck” in it. He invites children to make photos of him. We greet the donkey.

We also visit the recording studio ( студия звукозаписи ). Now we know some secrets of film industry ( кино производства ). It’s great!

I suppose your summer vacation was interesting, too. Would you like to write me a letter about it?
