План урока по теме «Common phobias»

Уровень владения языком (английским): Pre-Intermediate

Цели урока: 1) разобрать и отработать в активной лексике слова по теме Common phobias/fears

2) совершенствовать навыки детального аудирования

3) отработать использование For –Since с Present Perfect

Pre-reading activity	3-4 min	Ex 1 a: T focuses on the photos, the instruction + the introduction to the text T elicits possible options for other things that people are afraid of writes on the whiteboard answers T pre-teaches meaning and pronunciation of some words/phrases to help Sts understand the text (severe, sufferer, suffer, closed space)	To help out/introduce with new vocabulary if necessary Aim 1
Reading for information	5-6 min	Ex 1 b c: Ss read the text and do the tasks 1 b – matching explanations to phobias 1 c – finding words from the text related to fears	To practise gist reading Aims 1, 3
Listening for gist and detail	20 min	Audio – 2:35 min (we usually listen twice) Ex 2 a: T focuses on the instruction Ss listen and prepare their answers then discuss them altogether Ex 2 b: T focuses on the instruction Ss listen again and complete the table + compare the answers with their partners T plays the audio for the final time and Ss read the script to see what they understood/didn’t understand Ex 2 c: Ss ask each other questions and answer T encourages Ss to ask for and give additional information	To practise gist and for detail listening Aim 2
Grammar practise	15-20 min	Ex 3 a: Ss read the instruction, complete the task and compare their answers T checks the answers Ss focus on the Grammar Bank 9 B p.142 and follow the examples T highlights the difference between FOR and SINCE (grammar bank 9 B ex. A+B homework) Wordwall quiz For and Since: Ss focus on the questions and choose the answers Ex 3 c: T focuses on the instruction Ss listen to the words and make phrases using For and Since	To practice usage of the Present Perfect with for and since Aim 3
Communicative activity	15-20 min	Ex 5 a: Ss read the instructions and discuss how would they ask questions using the information from the table T helps out and highlights the tenses needed to be used (Present Simple and Present Perfect) T drills the past participles of the verbs (have-live-know-be) T encourages Ss to ask for and give additional information	To practice asking true to live questions with the mixture of tenses Aim 2, 3
