Цели урока: 

1) Практиковать обучающихся во всех видах речевой деятельности по теме

2) Расширение кругозора обучающихся.

3) Развитие личностной активности обучающихся.

4) Воспитание положительного и толерантного отношения к британской культуре, более глубокое осознание своей родной культуры.

5) Профессиональная ориентация обучающихся (профессии, связанные с иностранным языком).

Развивающие цели: - способствовать развитию интеллектуальной, эмоциональной, мотивационной сферы учащегося;

- способствовать овладению учащимися основными способами мыслительной деятельности ( сравнение, анализ, обобщение).

Воспитательные цели: - совершенствование навыков сотрудничества;

- формирование уважительного отношения к мнению других;

- воспитывать уважение к культуре другого народа.

Прогнозируемый результат: предполагается, что к окончанию урока учащиеся смогут осознанно оценить роль английского языка в современном мире указать преимущества владения иностранным языком для успешной карьеры

Оборудование: компьютер, экран, раздаточный материал.

Teacher: Good morning boys and girls! I am glad to see you.

Reading a limerick.

If we could know which road to take,

If we were told which choice to make,

We wouldn’t need to hurry

And nobody would worry,

Life would be just a piece of cake.

T: You are finishing 9th form. Most of you will leave school. It’s really difficult to decide which profession you would like to have. You must think hard what you would prefer as your future career. Nowadays when contacts between people are becoming closer knowledge of foreign languages plays an important role. People learn languages for different reasons. Some of them want to travel, others for the sake of interest. Knowledge of foreign language enriches our life. It makes possible to read foreign literature, talk to people of different nationalities, learn about their culture, economics, science and technology. But mostly people need English for their work.

As you can see today we are going to talk about role of English in your future career.

What do these jobs have in common?

Yes they all require knowledge of English.

T: About meaning of English in the world we can speak endlessly. But obviously English is an important part of life of modern people, and everyone will be able to find not even one reason to learn it.

Jobs that you can do with foreign language skills are divided into 3 groups:

Specifically language-related jobs such as teachers, translators, interpreters where you need deep knowledge of a language.

Not specifically language-related jobs: /foreign language can be asset or give more opportunities/

• Technical jobs /engineer/

• Business with regional focus

• Foreign service/ diplomat

• Tour guide/ tourism job

• Cabin attendant

Jobs that don’t require language skills but knowing it enhances lifestyle. You can do any job and live any lifestyle learning language of that place just for yourself. /business online/

It is an Ordinary Language but …

Britain`s influence on the world has been great. Take for example the influence of the English language around the world. The English language has become the lingua franca of the century. At present English is supposed to be better suited to play the role of a world language than other languages on earth. Unlike, for example, German, Russian, or Chinese, the simple structure and grammar of English, along with its tendency to use shorter, less abstract words and more-concise sentences, are all advantageous for the composers of song lyrics, ad slogans, cartoon captions, newspaper headlines, and movie and TV dialogue. English has become the standard language of international communication and mass culture.

Choose the best answer according to the text.

The author’s purpose in this passage is to explain …

a) why Britain’s influence on the world has been great;

b) why English is well-suited to become the standard language of international communication and mass culture;

c) that mass culture has a tendency to use shorter, less abstract words and more-concise sentences.

Read the text where you’ll find some more reasons for learning English.

“ Do you speak English?”- with this phrase begins the conversation between two people, that speak different languages and want to find common language. It’s very good when you hear “Yes, I do”, and start talking. People of different countries and nations have to get along well with the progress in world trade and technology as well as with each other.

So it’s very useful to learn foreign languages. Knowledge of foreign languages helps us to develop friendship and understanding among people.

English is very popular. It’s the language of computers, science, business, sport and politics. It’s spoken all over the world. It’s the official language of the United Kingdom, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia. There are more than 750 million speakers of English in the world.

Speaking of foreign language you can read papers, magazines and original books by great writers, watch satellite TV programs. If you like travelling you can go anywhere without being afraid that other people will not understand you. English is very important to find a new job and studying abroad.

Let’s have a rest. Learning languages at school starts in the 2^nd form. I want you to listen to small children. What do they think about learning English.
