The Theme :Travelling. Cities of Europe.


Основные задачи:

  • практиковать навык учащихся в аудировании связного текста

  • практиковать навыки устной речи учащихся

  • активизация лексики по теме «Лондон», «Город»

  • практиковать навык отбора необходимой информации

Lesson Procedure.



I) WARMING -UP

T. Good morning, girls and boys!

How are you?

P. I am fine, thank you.

T. It’s a nice day today, isn’t it?

P. Yes it is.

T. Let’s travel and go somewhere.

P. With great pleasure.

T. What are you doing this weekend?

P. I am going away.

T. Where are you going?

P. I am going to London.

T. How long?

P. Just for two days.

T. Have a nice weekend!

P. Thanks to you.

T. Do you like to travel?

P. Yes, I do.

T. What does travelling mean?

P1. Travelling means to visit new cities.

P2. Travelling means to meet new people.

P3.Travelling means to learn something new.

P4. Travelling means to get new impressions.

P5. Travelling means to have a rest.



II. The main part


T. Today we are going to speak about travelling and visiting cities and their places of interests. We’ll repeat the words, use the active vocabulary in dialogues and monologue speech, we’ll train the skills of listening, reading and get the information from the texts, revise grammar material and use speech patterns in your speech.I invite you to make a short trip as there is so much to see in the world and I believe you’ll get new impressions.



We’ ll get on  “A FLYING CARPET”, which take us to new lands.

How exciting that would be!



T. I hope that you’ll have a chance to do it.Every city is a lovely place, there are a lot of attractions and what to see.

Vocabulary Practice:

What places can we visit? Let’s repeat the words which you’ll use in your speech.

1. T. Repeat all together.

2. T. Complete the puzzle and find the missing word

4. T.Every city is really cool if you want to know it, come to the city and enjoy it.

T. London is really a great city. There are a lot of thing to see and to do.

If you want to go somewhere and it is difficult for you to choose the place and the transport you can go to the travel agency. The travel agent will help you.

Imagine that you are at the travel agency make up the dialogue.

Customer: Good morning. I’d like to go to London, please.

Travel Agent: OK. When would you like to go?

Customer: At the weekend, on Saturday.

Travel Agent: What time do you want to leave?

Customer: At about ten o’clock. What times are the trains?

Travel Agent:There’s one at half past ten. And there’s one at ten thirty.

Customer: Right. And what about the flights?

Travel Agent: There are two flights. There’s one at quarter to nine and one at quarter to twelve

Customer: Mmm, OK. And how much are the tickets?

Travel Agent: A single is seventy five pounds and a return is ninety pounds.

Customer: Can you give me a return ticket for the quarter to nine flight, please.

Travel Agent: Certainly.

Customer: Thank you.

6. T. Let’s sing a song about your travel to London.

We are flying in the air and across the sea

We are going to a really nice place to have a cup of tea

When we see the flag in the air

Then we know where we are

People are so very nice and full of cheer

7. Listening Comprehension:

7. T. So, let’s take a double – decker bus and make a tour around London.

Listen to the speaker very attentively and number the famous places in London in the correct order

8. T. Now we’ll read the text and draw the line of the route of the trip

I went on a sightseeing tour around London on a double – decker bus when I was in England. It was great. We started at the Tower of London and we went across Southwark Bridge. We went along SouthwarkStreet , past Tate Modern. That is an art gallery.

Then we went along Stamford Street, past Waterloo Bridge and stopped at the London Eye. That is a Big Wheel and we went on it. You could see all of London from the top. Then we went across Westminster Bridge. I could see Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. We went along Whitehall, the Strand, Aldwych and Fleet Street and past St. Paul’s Cathedral. Then we went along Cannon Street and we finished the tour at the Tower of London again.

  1. It took eight years to build Tower Bridge in London. It was finished in 1894. Tower Bridge was built because lots of people lived in the East End of London and there was no bridge in the east of the city at that time for them to use. Today, visitors to London can learn all about the history of the bridge at the Tower Bridge Exhibition.



  1. The Museum of Modern Art opened in 1929. It has a collection of over 150,000 works of art. These include paintings, photographs and drawings. The museum also has a very big collection of books and films. The museum has some very famous paintings by Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso and Claude Monet.



  1. University of London is in the north of London. It is one of the oldest universities in the world. The university was founded in 1088! The famous people studied there.

  2. Edinburgh is in the south of Scotland. The city’s famous castle sits on an extinct volcano called Castle Rock. Archeologists believe that people were living on the rock as long as 900 BC. In the Middle Ages, Edinburgh Castle was home to the Scottish kings and queens. The castle has been an army base for hundreds of years and is a very popular attraction for visitors to Scotland’s capital city.

Beth: Hi Ann!

Ann: Hi Beth. Are you having a good time?

Beth: Yes, thanks. This holiday isn’t long enough!

Ann: What did you do yesterday?

Beth: We were in London. I saw the river Thames and I went to a souvenir shop. I wanted to buy a bag, but it was too expensive!

Ann: Did you visit any famous places?

Beth: Yes, we visited the Natural History Museum. It’s the best museum in London!

Ann: What did you see?

Beth: A diplodocus. It was the tallest dinosaur in the world – it was bigger than the buses!

Ann: Did you have fun?

Beth: Yes, I did and Ben did too!

T. You are on holiday, you are writing a letter to your friend. You see the words and ask the questions to get the information:

Dear friend,

I am on holiday. I am having a good time. How are you?

________________________? To Britain.

________________________? By plane.

________________________? For one week.

________________________? Yes he did. Very much.

________________________? The Tower of London.

________________________? Yes he did. Lots.

________________________? Nice presents.

T. Your friend answers your letter. What does your friend write to you.

P. Last year I went to Venice. I travelled by plane. I stayed in Venice for one week. I liked it very much. I saw the carnival. I took lots of photographs and I bought nice presents for my friends.

T. I see the holiday souvenirs. Where are they from? Ask your friends where they went, when and what they bought. Make up dialogues.

P1. Where did you go?

P2. I went to London.

P1. When did you go there?

P2. I went there last year.

P1. What did you see there?

P2. I saw there The Tower of London, Big Ben.

P1. What did you buy there?

P2. I bought there the Teddy bear, the Double Decker.
